South Africa is the largest country in Southern Africa. With close to 56 million people, South Africa is the world's 24th-most populous nation. Known as the Rainbow nation, South Africa is a multiethnic society encompassing a wide variety of cultures, languages, and religions. Its pluralistic makeup is reflected in the constitution's recognition of 11 official languages; Zulu (the most commonly spoken), Afrikaans, Xhosa (2nd most common), Swati, Sesotho, Xitsonga, Sepedi, Ndebele, Setswana, Tshivenda, and English. South Africa also has three capital cities; Cape Town (Legislative), Pretoria (Administrative) and Bloemfontein (Judicial).
